Great grey shrike: Farley Hill, March 31st – April 1st only

A Great grey shrike was found near Swallowfield

GGS was reported at four different sites in the ‘second winter’ of 2011 but this is the first of 2012. Judging from Berksbirds, Farley Hill isn’t very well-watched with gropper being the only other record of interest in ten or so years

When I re-found it, it was at the top of a hedge 30 yards east of Ford lane and south of Sandpit lane

Click here for the Google map centred on the hedge

“Drag” the orange “man” to Nutbean lane to get a street view of Ford lane’s entrance [note: if you’re using an iPhone you’ll have to drop a pin first then click the man icon]
